Biography

Kohei Kawaguchi is an assistant professor of Economics at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he taught courses on industrial organization and microeconomics since 2017. He received his PhD in Economics from LSE. His research lies on empirical industrial organization and quantitative marketing. His recent empirical work includes antitrust economics such as the merger analysis of zero-price product and business economics such as the impact of introducing algorithm-based decisions in a retail business.

Publications Resource Allocation Among Competing Innovators Many innovative products are designed to satisfy the demand of specific target consumers; thus, the innovators will inevitably compete with each other in the product market. This paper investigates how a profit-maximizing principal should properly allocate her limited resources to support the innovations of multiple potentially competing innovators.
